WIN A NINTENDO 3DS!

WIN A NINTENDO 3DS! It’s your last chance to enter the big competition marking the start of the second ALIEN INVADERS series to win a Nintendo 3DS and other goodies. Entries close on 4th May, so go here if you want to enter the competition NOW! If you haven’t caught up with the aliens from the Wrecking Zone featured in the new books, then get reading! In Krush, the Iron Giant, Cosmo must battle a huge metallicon, half hideous alien, half deadly robot, intent on destroying the artificial planet of Syn-Nova. And in Junkjet, the Flying Menace, a metallicon invader evolved from smashed spacecraft is targeting the Starflight Spaceship Manufacturing Company. For those fans already waiting for the next instalment, Minox, the Planet Driller will be out in June.

ALIENS ON TOUR: Many thanks to everyone at the Chipping Norton festival for being so welcoming, particularly to everyone at St Mary’s School and Enstone schools. Next stop will be Bickley Park in Wimbledon on May 9th.

DID YOU KNOW? It might soon be possible to mine asteroids in space. Scientists are teaming up with the inventors of Google and the film director James Cameron to work out a way to extract fuel, water and precious materials like gold and platinum from the floating space rocks. With resources on Earth become more scarce all the time, space mining could be the answer. It turns out an asteroid 50 metres in diameter could contain £30billion of platinum. But watch out everyone! You might have to battle Minox, the Planet Driller. He could make space mining very dangerous indeed…

More news to come soon, but for now…

JUNKJET THE FLYING MENACE OUT NOW!

JUNKJET THE FLYING MENACE! The evil outlaw Kaos has beamed another awesome alien from the Wrecking Zone to invade the galaxy. It’s called Junkjet, the Flying Menace, and it’s heading for the Starflight Spaceship Manufacturing Company. Cosmo must battle his way through the Starflight Test Zone to find and defeat the alien, but the aerial attacker Junkjet has a special piece of equipment that could make it very difficult to find… Make sure you grab your copy of JUNKJET THE FLYING MENACE from Amazon NOW!

WIN NINTENDO 3DS! You’ve still got time to enter the competition to win a Nintendo 3DS, so get along to the competitions page without delay.

ALIENS ON TOUR: Many thanks once again to everyone who made the Spring tour so memorable. Next stop on the Aliens bandwagon will be the Chipping Norton Literary Festival on April 20th, so some of you’d better prepare yourselves for some space action if you’re coming along.

DID YOU KNOW? In the ALIEN INVADERS books, Cosmo flies G-Watch’s most advanced spaceship, the super-cool Dragster 7000. Thanks to 22nd century G-Watch technology, it can shoot across the galaxy at hyperspeed. But what’s the fastest spacecraft that Earth has managed to build to date? Well, the fastest unmanned spacecrafts are the Helios probes, which were launched in 1974 and 1975 to orbit the sun and pick up data about our nearest star. They reached a whopping 252,792 km/h or 157,078 mph. The fastest ever manned spacecraft was the Apollo 10, which reached a speed of 39,897 km/h or 24,791 mph when it returned from the moon on May 26, 1969. However, before we get too over-excited, we’ve still got a little way to go if we’re going to reach the speed of light, which is about or 1,080,000,000 km/h or 670,616,629 mph. So come on space-engineers, get your skates on!

THE UK TOUR!

Thanks to everyone who played host to a recent Alien Invaders event in the great World Book Day/KRUSH, THE IRON GIANT UK tour. We had lots of fun going on a trip into space where the audiences tried on alien underpants, channelled the thoughts of Kaos and battled a hulking alien of their own making. If you haven’t got your copy of Krush yet, you can grab a copy from Amazon.co.uk. And if you haven’t entered our new Wrecking Zone competition yet then go here!

Here were some highlights of the tour:

  • speaking to children from eight different schools on World Book Day as the Wimbledon Bookfest’s WBD author (a special thanks to the Golden Treasury Bookshop).
  • visiting Central Primary School in East Ham then Redbridge Primary School in Ilford, which has its very own chicken coop!
  • a raucous all-school assembly at Redriff Primary school in Rotherhithe (organised by Tales on Moon Lane)
  • an all-boys blast at Rokeby School in Kingston-upon-Thames
  • travelling to Boston, Lincolnshire, where Waterstone’s Boston took us to Tower Road Primary School and St Thomas’ School.
  • Norfolk on a sunny spring day with the Norfolk Children’s Book Centre. The tour ended on a high, with children from Holt Primary School and then Reepham Primary School providing some of the most memorable battle scenes of the whole tour.

Many thanks to anyone not mentioned, and see you at a school near you soon for an ALIEN INVADERS event of your own!

WORLD BOOK DAY TOUR! To celebrate World Book Day and the launch of the series, I’ll be going on a very special tour to meet some of you, taking in London, the Southeast, Lincolnshire and Norfolk.

DID YOU KNOW? The new series of ALIEN INVADERS is all about aliens from the Wrecking Zone, a deep-space dumping ground full of waste technologies that have formed huge mutant androids over time. But did you know that Planet Earth has its very own problem with space junk? At this very moment, tens of millions of objects created by humans are orbiting our planet that include everything from spent rocket parts to defunct satellites, and all of them pose a potential collision risk to operational spacecraft. So the next time you’re in your spaceship, launching into outer space, remember this: make sure you tidy up after yourselves!

WELCOME TO A BUSY NEW YEAR!

BRAND-NEW ALIEN INVADERS! Good news, Alien fans! Cosmo’s second mission is almost underway, and brand-new ALIEN INVADERS books will be in the shops soon. March sees the launch of book 6 in the series, KRUSH THE IRON GIANT. In Kaos’s second invasion of the galaxy, he’s enlisted the help of metallicons from the Wrecking Zone. Part machine, part alien, these metal monsters are on the rampage, and Cosmo’s the only one who can sort them out… Pre-order it now at amazon.co.uk

And if you or any of your friends are yet to get your head into the first series, there’s a brilliant bumper edition of books 1 and 2 (ROCKHEAD THE LIVING MOUNTAIN and INFERNOX THE FIRESTARTER) on sale NOW. You can grab a copy from amazon.co.uk.

DID YOU KNOW? Scientists have now discovered four planets outsold our solar system that could support alien life. Last May, scientists discovered the first planet with the right temperature for life to exist and called it Gliese 581d. Since then they’ve discovered other similar planets and called them HD 85512b and Kepler 22b. Only this month a fourth planet, now called GJ 667Cc, was discovered. Its 4.5 bigger than our planet but it’s thought it has the same surface temperature, and now they’re trying to work out if it has water or not. But there’s one thing I want to know… Who thinks up these names??? Couldn’t they work out something a bit snappier?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

NOT LONG NOW! It’s only a week until Christmas, so do make sure you’ve got your copy of ALIEN INVADERS in your stocking to complete your collection. All the books are on special offer now on Amazon, and if you hurry you’ll still get them in time for Christmas Day.

WIN ALIEN GOODIES! To celebrate Christmas and the New Year, we’re running a competition to win a bag of ALIEN INVADERS goodies including an exclusive ALIEN INVADERS T-shirt, signed copies of the first series of books, bookmarks and other stuff that you’ll LOVE! To enter, just go to our competitions page and answer a very simple question.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Alien Invaders’ galactic takeover continues with the brilliant news that the books will now be published in Portugal (with Booksmile) and Denmark (Forlaget Flachs).

IS SANTA AN ALIEN? Consider this: he comes from a secret faraway place, wears a hi-tech red suit, has a team of little aliens (AKA elves) to help him, uses cutting-edge technology to fly around the world in a night then sneak into your house without you knowing AND likes weird food and drink like mince pies and sherry. So this Christmas, watch out for a UFO landing on your roof and think alien!

More news to come soon, but for now…

Merry Christmas and over and out!

CHRISTMAS AND COMPETITION WINNER!

LATEST: Christmas is fast approaching, so why not ask Santa to pop a copy of ALIEN INVADERS in your stocking to complete your collection, or grab one for a friend? All the books are on special offer now on Amazon. And for those of you who might be getting e-books this year, we’ll be running a very special promotion that we’ll be announcing soon. And watch out for TOXIC MAGAZINE this month for a FREE ALIEN INVADERS giveaway!

COMPETITION: The winner of our most recent competition is… NADIA MITAB! Congratulations, Nadia! A NINTENDO 3DS will be winging its way to you soon. Don’t worry if you didn’t win this time: we’ll be running more competitions in the very near future with more goodies on offer.

THANK YOU! Very many thanks to Grasmere School in Stoke Newington, London, Cottesmore St Mary’s school in Hove and St Martins CE Primary School in Brighton for their warm welcome over the past few weeks. It’s great to be able to get out and see you in person. Hopefully you’ve all now recovered from your very own alien invasions!

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS? A Russian Soyuz spacecraft recently landed safely back on Earth after a trip to the International Space Station. Looking at the pictures of them emerging from the spacecraft, I think I would have landed somewhere a bit warmer if I were them…

And finally… congratulations to a man in America called Richie Knucklez who just set a new video game world record by scoring the highest recorded points in “SPACE INVADERS”, 110,510, doubling the previous record! He’s been playing the game since he was 11 years old AND he owns his very own games arcade, so he’s pretty dedicated. Are there any games you play really well?

More news to come soon, but for now…

THANK YOU!

It’s been a couple of months now since the release of the series, and the reaction has been fantastic. Special thanks for the warm welcome given by Harvey Road School in Hertfordshire, Butlers Court School in Buckinghamshire, Woodstock Primary School in Oxfordshire, and Goodrich Primary School and Heber Primary School in London.

COMPETITION: There’s still time to enter and win yourselves a NINTENDO 3DS, but don’t forget the deadline is 30th September 2011, so time’s running out. We’ll be announcing the winner at the beginning of October.

INTERNATIONAL: The good news from G-Watch International is that the Alien Invaders series will be publishing in Germany (with Loewe) and Spain (with Editorial Hidra), so the spread of Alien Invaders around the world has begun.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS? Those clever space bods at NASA have been busy… They’ve just released footage of the Southern Lights, a natural light display over Antarctica, which is awesome. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/14999409. And if you think space travel is still a long way away, check out NASA’s new space rocket, which they hope will one day be able to take people to Mars: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/14931948
